The P in PRISM stands for PLAN

A Successful PRISM Plan Will Consider The Following:

PROPERTY SIZE, LAYOUT, CURRENT PLANTINGS AND INSTALLATIONS:

Water sources;

Shelter sources;

Nesting Sources;

Food for wildlife/pollinators;

Access and Pathways;

Other resources for any of the three PRISM constituencies: 

people, native plants, wildlife/pollinators.

Your final PRISM plan should include at least a basic outline of what, when, where, how and who will install your new native plants. See install for more.


NATURAL CONDITIONS:

Amount of rain and/or other water issues —boggy, stream, water retention or run-off;

Sun/shade;

Grade of the land—flat, sloped, banked;

Type of soil—sandy, loamy, rocky, clay;

Amount of invasive and other undesirable plants.

HARDSCAPE/LANDSCAPE OF AREA:

Sidewalks;

parking lots; 

buildings, woods; 

stream; 

school grounds; 

golf course; 

sports fields; 

outdoor recreation; 

playground; 

religious services; 

graveyard;

urban/suburban/rural.


SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:

Mitigation of bird-window collisions;

Mitigation of artificial light at night;

Mitigation of feral cat threat. 

WHO USES/WILL USE THE PRISM SPACE?

Examples might include: 

Public access—All PRISM Gardens have at least some aspect of public access;

Vegetable beds;

Schools;

Playground;

Picnic area/family use;

Performing arts;

Religious services/ceremonies;

Community gathering spot;

Pathways to other places;

Further plans/development under consideration or underway.
